Story

This project aims to protect over 2 million hectares of territory composed of jungle and flooded areas, benefiting more than 4,000 people from the 42 villages of Javaé, Karajá, and Ãwa, located in 2 indigenous territories in the transitional region between the Cerrado and the Brazilian Amazon.

This territory has been recognized as a Ramsar site since 2002 due to its more than 500,000 hectares of seasonal lagoons, swamps, and numerous islands. Globally, it is classified as the largest river island in the world, where there is a great wealth and diversity of flora and fauna.

This territory, composed of jungles and flooded areas, is a fast and efficient ecosystem in capturing CO2, standing out as the largest Blue Carbon project developed by BIOFIX Consultoria in partnership with indigenous communities of Brazil.
